E-mail notifications
qc.ebu.io can e-mail you when a QC Item changes status and about related discussions. Notifications are off until you switch them on in the Notifications page of your Account (members of the QC group have them on by default). If you start watching an Item while they are off, you are asked whether you want to turn them on. See Your account for what each setting does.
What the e-mail says
The e-mail names the Item and the status of the new version, and says either "Status changed from X to Y." or "Status unchanged (Y).", so you can tell a first entry into a review from a later update made during it. For Items in a review state it also gives the end of the review period.
Discussions
You are e-mailed about a discussion (a new discussion, a new post, a closed or a deleted one) when you watch the Item, when you are the Lead Editor of the Item, and when you took part in it: you posted in it, or it is assigned to you. The last one is on by default and can be switched off with Notify me about the discussions I take part in on the Notifications page. You are not e-mailed about your own actions. Editor discussions only reach members of an editor group.
If your notifications are switched off when you open a discussion or reply to one, a notice in the discussion window tells you that you will not hear about replies, and offers to turn notifications on or open your settings.
Digest
By default your notifications are bundled: you get one e-mail, grouped by Item, once the oldest waiting notification is 15 minutes old (choose 5, 15, 30 or 60 minutes, or switch the digest off, on the Notifications page).
Watching Items
Any logged-in user can use the Start watching and Stop watching buttons on a QC Item to add or remove the Item from their list of watched Items. Watching applies to the whole Item, whichever version you are looking at. You are only e-mailed about versions you are allowed to see: QC Editors hear about every status, everyone else only about Published and Withdrawn versions. In the Notifications page the options only QC Editors can use are greyed out and marked with an asterisk. For the Items on that list you are e-mailed about the statuses ticked in the "QC Items I am watching" column of the Notifications page (by default every change). Status changes ticked for "All QC Items" reach you whether or not you watch the Item, so you can hear about every new version saved in Tech Review or Group Review, a first entry and later updates alike, without watching the Items one by one.
Lead Editors
For QC Items you are the Lead Editor of, the watch buttons are NOT shown. Manage the notifications for those Items separately, in the As Lead Editor section of the Notifications page. When you become Lead Editor while your notifications are off, you are asked whether you want to turn them on.
If you stop being the Lead Editor of an Item, your earlier watch setting for it applies again.
Filtering
You can also filter by the Items you are (not) watching, or are the Lead Editor of, with the Advanced Filter on the QC Items page.
